Every day we wake up asking ourselves, “how can we make the best out of our lives?” We look ourselves in the mirror and say, “This is not the person I wanted to be.” But apparently, we’re clueless as to how we can make a difference in our lives. If we don’t know where to start, how should we begin?
Here are 7 things you can do to make the best out of yourself.
Do something out of the ordinary
Quite often we find ourselves following in the footsteps of other’s. Other than creating our own path, we take a route that has proven to be successful (for others) and follow their footsteps accordingly. We’re concerned about creating our own path. We’re afraid of not knowing where we may end up. And many other symptoms such as:
Afraid it may lead to negative results
Scared we might fail
Think it’s a waste of time
Well aware that our family and friends won’t be much help
However, if you take a look at all those successful billionaires, you’ll notice they all have something in common. They started out doing something that has never been done before. As a result, not only have they become successful and multi-billionaires, they also set an example for those who are currently following their footsteps.
Do what you believe is right
What’s beneficial for somebody may not be same for you. More importantly, nobody is always right. Normally, we have the tendency to listen to people who have more credibility than us. We idolized them, follow their advice, and hopefully someday we can be just like them.
We’re raised to think a certain way. We’re raised to believe failure is not an option. And if we were to ever take a wrong turn, we would end up being miserable for the rest of our lives. For example, education. If we don’t get our diploma then we won’t be able to find a well-paying job to support ourselves. Hence, we do what we are being told with little to no initiation.
But like I mentioned above, nobody is always right. If you believe what you’re doing is right and others are telling you otherwise. Simply ignore their comments and continue doing what you do.
Do what you like
Be honest, do you enjoy what you’re doing or you are in it for the money? Sure, money can be an important factor in our lives. But, if your job is making you miserable, quit. It’s essentially meaningless to stay in an environment you dislike. How are we suppose to get promotions if we lack motivation? We need to be advancing forward not remain at the entry level. Otherwise, what’s the point?
When it comes to careers, don’t be afraid to make changes. It’s like saying: your changing major’s in college because you realized that particular field is not right for you. Students do it all the time, why can’t employers?
Do what you don’t do
We enjoy working with activities that is easy to adapt. Anything that requires labor, hard work, and dedication seems rather boring. It sounds like a no-brainer to put effort into something we have no passion about. In addition, we don’t know where our self-interest is.
Unless we go out and explore our interest, we can’t determine whether or not something’s at our interest. Nonetheless, get out there and experiment.
A lot can change; even something you don’t picture yourself doing in the next 4 years. Besides, life doesn’t get much excitement if you’re planning to stick to the same hobby day after day. We eventually start losing interest in the things we once love.
If you decide to start a new hobby, you’ll be surprised at how much progress you can make within a short period of time. You might even develop a passion in that field.
Do yourself a favor
For various reasons; we try our best trying to please others. We go to work in order to receive a paycheck, we receive a paycheck just so we can buy: fancy cars, cool gadgets, and jewelry, just so we can show off to others. But the truth is, it’s not impressive… And hardly anybody will notice.
The genuine way to impress others is determined based on how we present ourselves. With that said, don’t materialize yourself just so you can impress others. It doesn’t matter what car you drive or what clothes you wear. Rather than focusing on expensive merchandise, try building up your character. Many people like’s a humble and funny human being.
Do your Best
If you’re taking a multiple choice test and you don’t know the answer to the question. The best approach is to take an educated guess and hope for the best. But before putting down your final answer, you want to start eliminating all the choices that are practically incorrect. By doing so, you will have a higher possibility getting the correct answer.
The same goes for making tough decisions in life. Although we don’t know whether or not, the choices we make is heading towards the right direction. We perpetually need to make alternative preferences to make the best of it. Take your time to analyze the situation, stay focused, and implement on the plan.
One of the ways we identify ourselves is by comparing with others. We do this by simply measuring the length of wealth, education, beauty, and possibility everything we can think of. You name it – we compare it. Doing such comparison gives us an insight on how much credibility we have over our competitor (friends and family).
Don’t worry about others. Worry about yourself
Substantially, everything is becoming a rat race. We believe there’s some sort of prize waiting for us at the finish line for finishing first. But that’s not necessary the case. Supposedly, you graduated from college before your friends; the next approach is finding a job. However, the year you graduated was the same year your degree was no longer in-demand. As a result, you weren’t able to find a job until the same year your friends graduated as well.
I hope this post has inspired you to go out there and seek for opportunities, as well as creating your opportunities. After all, we only have one life. Might as well live it to the fullest right?
